Tokyo based synth group CRYSTAL have announced their first full-length album Crystal Station 64. Their music was discovered by Justice and Surkin on Myspace and was debuted on the legendary label Institubes, which led the French Electro movement together with Ed Banger. They have performed live with Boys Noize and Para One among others. Influences like Jean-Michel Jarre, Talking Heads, Art Of Noise and Telex playfully collide in this twisted homage to old-school Electro and Techno Pop. Teki Latex of the French alternative hip-hop group TTC makes an appearance on Get It, while Ryota Miyake adds layers of humor with his vocals on the slow-jam Magic and FM synth wizardry on instrumental tracks like No Fun and Jungli-la. With deep rhythm sections, outstanding pop sensibility, and a perfect crystal-colored artificiality, Crystal Station 64 goes way beyond simple fascination with Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems and the future of the internet. Perhaps it is already a classic somewhere in the far reaches of our galaxy… Besides, IKONIKA from Hyperdub rescords is collaborating on the bonus track!

about

CRYSTAL 東京都, Japan

CRYSTAL are experts at their own brand of retro-futuristic synth. Headed up by Ryota Miyake (aka FLAU roster artist Sparrows), the duo’s sound may have taken different trajectories, but their experimental, energetic new wave meets techno with added video game music continues to turn heads.

With Sunao Maruyama alongside Miyake, CRYSTAL have collaborated with big names throughout their career.
